Prince Demola Suzy released a hit song, “Okunkun E Ye Was” in 2015 to capture the gory experience in Ondo South Senatorial District, how residents had been in total darkness without electricity for over 10 years.

The Local Governments covered in Ondo South are four, namely, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele and Okitipupa Local Government Areas.
Yet we have governments in place at the Local Governments, State and at the Federal. Right from the administration of Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) of Governor Olusegun Mimiko and former President Goodluck Jonathan under the same party, nothing was done.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) took over in the state and at the Federal level with Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Muhammadu Buhari in control respectively, we have not seen anything tangible to restore electricity except promises.
We only know the presence of government in the areas of collection of levies, taxes and when the election campaign is around the corner like what we have experienced in the past few weeks.

I have heard another promises from top contenders, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) to the seat of power in Ondo State for another four years.
What do we stand to enjoy in a government if not for the basic necessities of life like food, electricity, water, housing, good roads, security and employment?

It is disheartening for any discerning minds to experience darkness for over 10 years in a whole Senatorial District in the 21st Century in a country said to be the giant of Africa!
Akeredolu openly declared on live television debate that all necessary works have been completed to restore back electricity in Okitipupa, Aye, Irele, Ikoya, Igbokoda, Oloto, Ilututun-Osoro, Iju-Odo, Igbotako, Omotosho, Erinje and all towns in the Ilaje Ese-Odo areas.

On the other hand, the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede has also promised that restoration of light to Ondo South will be his top priority should he win the governorship election on Saturday, October 10, 2020.
This write-ups is standing to hold the governorship candidates accountable to their promises to the residents of these areas should they fail to deliver before 2023 when the presidential election shall hold.
Failure of whoever wins on Saturday election to deliver on their promises will incur the wrath of the residents of these areas from participating in any further electoral process.

The efforts of the youths, students and our music icon, Prince Demola Suzy is appreciated for their agitations in these past years.
“Okunkun e ye wa” was a hit I cannot stop listening to every time because it captured the pulse of the people living in these areas.
This is another chance for whoever is on the seat of power in Ondo State to demystify darkness and restore our light.

This is also to awaken the consciousness of whoever wins the election that the youths in these areas will no longer entertain any further excuse of not restoring electricity in Ondo South.
All sons and daughters of Ilaje, Apoi, Ijaw, Ikale in Ondo South and friends should, as a matter of importance, join this crusade by sharing this in all their social media contacts to hold government at all levels responsible and accountable.
