Can you still remember the General Overseer of Christian Praying Assembly? He is Pastor Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, a.k.a. Reverend King.
The Supreme Court convicted Rev. King to die by hanging. In a unanimous judgment Friday, (February 26, 2016) afternoon, a seven-man panel of Justices ‎of the apex court led by Justice Walter Onnoghen, upheld the death sentence that was earlier handed to Ezeugo by the Lagos State High Court.
Ezeugo was convicted and sentenced to death for the alleged murder of his church member, Ann Uzoh.
Considering the gravity of his offence and having waited for the hangman since the Supreme Court sentenced him to death in 2016, the Lagos State Government is having a rethink over his case.
Therefore, the Lagos State Government has said Reverend Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, popularly called Reverend King, would get clemency and not go through the hangman’s noose, if he is worthy of it.

This was disclosed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem.
Kazeem stated this during the 2018 Ministerial Press Briefing of the Ministry of Justice, to mark Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode’s third anniversary.
“The truth of the matter is that the case of Rev King, as high profile as it could be, it is just one of the other cases of people that are on death row. The case of the clergy would be considered like others that had been convicted by the court.

“If and at any point in time, it gets to the stage where the sentence which was imposed by the court is to be carried out, it will be carried out.
“If he is worthy of clemency, that will be given to him. But we haven’t gotten to that stage now. So he could continue to cool his heels in prison,†he said.
