The battle line has been drawn between the Executive and Legislative arms of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris failed to honour the Senate’s invitation today over the arrest and detention of Senator Dino Melaye and the killings across Nigeria.

The Senate had, on Wednesday, summoned the IGP to appear in the chamber to address the lawmakers in plenary on Thursday (today).
The Police boss was, however, said to have accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari on a state visit to Bauchi State.
Faulting the Police boss for not officially communicating to them on his non-appearance, the lawmakers asked that the appearance be rescheduled to next Wednesday.

It would be recalled that Senator Dino Melaye and the police had been at a loggerhead in the past few days in which the latter (Melaye) was said to have jumped off a moving to avoid being taken to Lokoja in Kogi State. He was scheduled to be paraded with some criminals who implicated him in arms deal in Abuja.
Senator Melaye had earlier written a formal letter to the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim of his resolve to be tried in Abuja since the allegation against was in Abuja.

Melaye said there was a grand plan to eliminate him in Kogi in a conspiracy between the governor Yahaya Bello and the police.
Senator Melaye is currently in an intensive care at Abuja hospital. It was reported on Wednesday that the embattled senator was on a hunger strike with his hands handcuffed.
Senator Melaye said his family members that were arrested when the police laid siege on his residence in Abuja have not been released as at the time of filing this report.
