The Federal Government, on Monday, approved the implementation of some of the Stephen Oronsaye Report recommendations to reduce the cost of governance.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed this to State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, Monday.
With the apex government adoption, 29 government agencies will be merged and eight parastatals will be subsumed into eight other agencies.
Also, four agencies have been relocated to four various ministries and one was earmarked for scrapping.

President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, in 2012, set up the Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions, and Agencies.
The committee was headed by a retired federal civil servant and former Head of Service of the Federation, Stephen Oronsaye.
Other members of the committee chaired by Oronsaye include Japh CT Nwosu, Rabiu Abubakar, N. Salman Mann, Hamza A. Tahir, Adetunji Adesunkanmi, and Umar A. Mohammed.
Here are things to know about Oronsaye whom the report of the committee was named after.
– Stephen Osagiede Oronsaye was born in Lagos State on November 16, 1950.
– His parents hailed from Uhunmwonde and Oredo Local Government Areas in Edo State.
– He was appointed Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in June 2009.
– After his appointment, Oronsaye initiated several reform programmes to reposition the civil service
– He retired on November 16, 2010, upon reaching the statutory retirement age of 60. He was succeeded by Oladapo Afolabi.
– Oronsaye trained at the Peat Marwick Castleton Elliot firm from 1973 to 1978 and obtained qualification as a Chartered Accountant in 1978. He ascended to the position of Partner within the firm in 1989.
– Oronsaye joined the Federal Ministry of Finance in December 1995 as Director, Special Duties.
– He assumed the role of Principal Secretary to President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999.
– He was later confirmed as Permanent Secretary of the State House.
– Oronsaye led the committee tasked with reviewing the Civil Service Rules and Financial Regulations in 2006.
– He was appointed Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance in August 2008.
