ASSISTANT Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone XI Command, Osogbo, Osun State, AIG Sikiru Kayode Akande (Rtd) on Friday, May 26, 2023 retired from the Nigeria Police Force after 23 years in service at the age of 60.
The Pulling Out Parade ceremony took place at the Osogbo Stadium while entertainment of guests took place at the Leisure Spring Hotel, Osogbo, Osun State. The retirement events of Akande coincided with his 60th birthday celebration.
Akande told SOJ WORLDWIDE in a private chat that he was inspired to join the Police Force when he was a boy as a result of regale of the Pulling Out Parade of his father, L. A. Akande CP (Rtd) who also retired in 1972.

He said that one of the reasons he insisted in conducting the ceremony was for the benefit of those coming behind him, that, if they are committed to the service of the nation they will be honoured like this.
“A policeman is never rich but a policeman is always comfortable.”
When asked, what are the challenges he faced while in service, he said life itself is always full of challenges. He said, he has conditioned himself to be awake between 10pm and 4am everyday since 1990 because the criminals always operate in the nights. He fights everyday, he needs to readjust himself now that he has retired from the Police Force.
