AMPHITHEATER Rooftop Collapses On OAU Students, Four Wounded, Management Reacts

THE rooftop of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Amphitheater on Thursday, May 16, 2024 collapsed on the students while lectures was ongoing, four students sustained various degree of injuries.

 

The students were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

 

An eyewitness, known as The Great Ife on Twitter, under the handle #IfeCampus, reported the incident, stating,

There was a whirlwind that collapsed the covering inside Amphi theatre. Four people have been rushed to the hospital as of 8:45 am.”

“The students were initially taken to Seventh Day Adventist Hospital but were refused admission. They have now been transferred to OAUTHC, and the Vice-Chancellor is currently at the hospital with the injured students.”

 

 

Meanwhile, the Management of OAU called for calm over the unfortunate incident.

 

In a Press Release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju available to SOJ WORLDWIDE, said the rainstorm affected the Amphitheatre as it fell off and injured a few of the students.

“The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire led other principal officers to the Medical and Health Centre of the University, and ensured that the injured students were given adequate medical attention.

The Vice-Chancellor also followed two other students, whose cases demanded more medical attention to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor John Okeniyi, physically supervised the proceedings.

The Vice-Chancellor has, therefore, appealed for calm and urged students and staff to go about their academic and administrative activities without any form of untoward action.

Meanwhile, the management of the University, has sealed off the amphitheatre, the venue of the unfortunate incident, until further notice.”
