Tanko Yakasai, elder statesman and political adviser in the second Republic, has claimed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) might field Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo or a National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in 2023.
Speaking in an Interview, Yakasai said it was because the region played a key role in the emergence of Buhari in 2019.

He also said the South-East don’t stand a chance of getting the ticket.
“The current calculation is that the vice-president is from the Southwest. Clearly, there is an unwritten understanding that when Buhari finishes, the Vice President will likely be the next presidential candidate of the APC.
“The Vice President is a Yoruba man. Even if it is not Osinbajo, somebody from there, probably Tinubu, will likely emerge as the candidate of the party.

“And with the performance of the party in the southeast, I don’t see any possibility that the party will think of giving its candidacy to the southeast as against the support it earned from the southwest.
“Apart from voting, don’t forget that there was some material support which APC enjoyed from the Southwest,” Yakasai said.
