The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have finally reached an agreement with the Federal Government at a closed door meeting in the early hours of Friday in Abuja and have subsequently considered the government options to suspend the strike.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have finally reached an agreement with the Federal Government at a closed door meeting in the early hours of Friday in Abuja and have subsequently considered the government options to suspend the strike.

Sahara Reporters learned the meeting which started about 1:38 pm on Thursday, ended around 2:15 a.m on Friday, after an agreement was reached between government representatives and members of the striking lecturers.

The leadership of ASUU, even though had accepted the proposal presented by the government, but later insists taking the proposal to its members, as they promised to get back to the government in one week time.

Speaking after reaching the agreement, the National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, told journalists after the meeting that the union will come back after one week to take its final decisions. “Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration,” he said.

In his own reaction, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, also confirmed reaching an agreement with ASUU, stressing that the union has also proposed to get back to the government in a week after consulting with other members.
