While announcing his choice of running mate for the 2023 Nigeria presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, made the following suspension of disbelief, I-don’t-believe-he-said-that, remarks.
“It is a difficult decision that I’m called upon to take. But I’m not afraid of taking difficult decisions. But as someone hoping to lead a complex country, such as ours, tough and difficult decisions will remain a part of my everyday life.”
Atiku Abubakar is not afraid of making difficult decisions? That really cracks me up, big time. I know cynical politicians lie and cheat all the time. Saying what they don’t mean and meaning what they don’t say is their modus operandi. But this comment by Atiku takes the customary gaslighting of the gullible electorate to a whole different level.
Just a few weeks ago, Atiku Abubakar demonstrated to all Nigerians that he is nothing but a weak and opportunistic human being unfit to lead a complex multi-religious and multi-ethnic country like Nigeria.
Here was a man who, upon being threatened by faceless Islamic terrorists and heartless criminals on social media, quickly deleted a social media comment he released to condemn the murder in cold blood of Deborah Samuel, the 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, in Sokoto State, who was accused of blaspheming Prophet Mohammed.

In the aftermath of the murder of Deborah Samuel, and the desecration of her deceased body by her murderers, the former Vice President and presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar, took to Facebook and Twitter to denounce the ghastly act committed against Ms. Samuel who was reported to have been beaten to death and burnt alive by male Muslim students who accused her of insulting Prophet Muhammed on a group’s WhatsApp forum.
Upon hearing the news about the gruesome incident, Atiku, on his social media handles, rightly condemned the incident, declaring that all those behind the killing must be brought to justice. Within a few short hours after posting his condemnation, however, the emasculated Atikulate, deleted the posts and went on to deny ever authorizing them to be posted in the first place, all because a handful of faceless religious fanatics with Islamic names responded to the posts by threatening to withdraw their support for his presidential ambition.
It is this same cowardly, craven, chicken-hearted, chicken-livered, lily-livered, dastardly, gutless, milk-livered, poltroon, pusillanimous, recreant, spineless – I could go on – man who wants Nigerians to now believe he is some tough no nonsense badass who’s not afraid of taking difficult decisions.
The ballsyness of it all is laughable, and the silliness of the effrontery makes me wanna cry.
