It will be recalled that June 12, 1993 was the day Nigeria had its freest and fairest election where MKO Abiola defeated Alhaji Bashir Tofa in the Presidential election but the election was annuled by the dictatorial administration of self styled President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

MKO Abiola died in Federal Government custody on July 7, 1998 after many years in detention.
