The Minister of Special Duties, Senator Gorge Akume is out of the National Chairmanship race of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
This follows the resolution of National leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) on the controversial section 84 (12) of Electoral Act which is still the subject of litigation.

The National Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of All Progressive Congress (APC) Mai Mala Buni declared that all political appointees who were elected as delegates to the National Convention slated for March 26 shall not vote.
The party took the decision in view of the controversy surrounding Section of the amended Electoral Act, 2022.
“However, political appointees can still attend as observers.”

Although, Senator Akume has not announced his decision to step down, the position of the party has automatically disqualified him to contest or remain in the race.
The APC National Convention is scheduled to hold March 26, 2022.
