Liverpool will host Chelsea while Frank Lampard’s Derby County will visit Manchester United following the third-round draw for the Carabao Cup held on Thursday.
Holders of the most League Cup (Carabao) titles at eight, Liverpool last met Chelsea in the 2015 semifinals, a 2-1 aggregate win for the Blues.
Lampard, the former Chelsea and Manchester City player, will get a tough test at Old Trafford in his first season as manager with the Derby.
Defending champions Manchester City will visit League One side Oxford United.
However, Tottenham Hotspur “applied for a special dispensation from the EFL Board” to play their match against Watford at Stadium MK. The Cup organizers said, because of the unavailability of Wembley on that date and ongoing construction delays to their new stadium.
In the long run, other all-Premier League matchups are Leicester City at Wolverhampton and Everton hosting Southampton.
The third round will be played during the week of Sept. 24.
