Speaking with INDEPENDENT Newspaper, the driver who identified himself as Victor Fakesi Oluwasegun said that he was on his way to Ikorodu, but parked at Iyana Oworo Bus stop to ask for direction from a LASTMA officer when he met his misfortune.
According to him, the same officer who he asked for direction was the one who arrested him, despite not committing any traffic offence.
Shocked at the development, Oluwasegun revealed that his inquiry to what led to his arrest saw him being beaten by two other LASTMA officers who tried to burst his tyres.
“I am a Chef. I just got into Lagos State today, I was on my way to Ikorodu and I parked at Iyana Oworo Bus Stop to make enquiry on the easiest route to Ikorodu. The next thing was that a LASTMA officer was asking me to pay N1000,00 for my offence. When I refused, they tried bursting my tyres. When I resisted them, they dragged me to the front of their gate, and beat me up. They collected my car key and N 21,000.00, now my car is damaged”
Oluwasegun whose wine-coloured tee shirt was torn from the beating he received from the officers who left him with scars on his face asked INDEPENDENT Newspaper if beating members of the public had turned the responsibility the agency was saddled with by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“I want to ask a question sir. Is beating members of the public the responsibility Governor Sanwo-Olu gave them, ” he asked.

Asked if he had approached a senior officer to intervene in the situation, he said that he was reluctant to speak with them, as they were on site when he was being beaten by the officers who arrested him.
According to him, this idea of harassing people is quite becoming a norm, as LASTMA officers now arrest drivers asking them to pay N20,000 outside or pay N50,000 inside the office.
