It was exciting as well as entertaining hearing experts in the theatre arts industry delivering thoughts and messages reflecting on Yoruba culture and values to the audience who graced the 40th anniversary of the demise of Chief Duro Ladipo aka Obakoso.
The event was spiced with two documentaries on the life and times of the theatre legend, Duro Ladipo and cultural displays by the Oludare Cultural Group.
SOJ Worldwide was there to cover the wonderful event that saw professionals in the indigenous Yoruba theatre industry in attendance.

In attendance at the great colloquium are the hostess, Mrs Duro-Ladipo popularly known as Moremi Ajasoro, Prof. Kola Oyewo, former governor of OSUN State, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Baba Chief Elebu-Ibon, Ewi Poet, Alabi Oyedepo, Chief Jimoh Buraimoh, Dr. Mrs. Adeola Faleye and a host of other dignitaries.
The occasion was celebrated at the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding, Abere, Osogbo in Osun State.
Two powerful documentaries were shown where notable actors, Moremi, the son of the late Icon, Chief Yemi Elebuibon, Peju Ogunmola, Chief Jimoh Buraimoh gave account of the sterling qualities of Duro Ladipo in script writing, down-to-earth research in Yoruba tradition and theatre artistry to promote Yoruba culture.
The second documentary showed late Duro Ladipo giving the account that gave birth to Obakoso at the ancient city of Oyo. He went to the memory lane of how he made research from Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Awujale of Ijebu land, Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Osamawe of Ondo, Oba Lipede of Egba and other prominent Yoruba Obas. This gave birth to quality historical works in Ajagunla, Moremi, Obakoso etc.

He said he married three wives with one of them taking care of the family while he and other two are part of his theatre troupe. According to him, Abiodun Duro-Ladipo is gifted in singing and acting while the third wife is a professional dancer.
Oludare Cultural group was on hand to entertain guests with cultural displays.
The event showed the memories of late Duro Ladipo and his quality works on culture and values.
All discussants who delivered speeches centred their speeches on the promotion of Yoruba culture and values. They unanimously enjoined young practitioners to emulate the sterling qualities of late Duro Ladipo in his finesse in delivering unpolluted Yoruba language and culture. And that the younger generation should desist from polluting the language. It was said that husband and wife need not exposing their nakedness for viewers to know they are having fun in their room. The way it was done in the past was that when husband and wife entered a room and the room is locked it equally showed that something was going on in the room.
