Federal Polytechnic, Ede (FPE) suspended academic activities on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 following a peaceful protest embarked by the students as a result of refusal of lecturers to attend lectures.
A statement issued by the Ede Poly management made available to SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS, http://www.sojworldnews.com, cited their unpreparedness for the COVID-19 protocols to enable students resume their academic activities as their reason to suspend academic activities today.
Whereas the school was shut down as a result of the management’s faceoff between it and ASUP over the inability of the school authority to pay 42 months arrears of earned allowance since 2013.
The refusal of lecturers to attend lectures forced the students to stage peaceful protects on Tuesday in which the two entrance gates leading to the campus were locked up.
The school management said on Wednesday,
“All students are to vacate the polytechnic campus while those that are residents in the hostel are to vacate their hall of residence on or before 12 noon on Wednesday, 4th November, 2020”, the statement read.
The action of the school management is nothing but taken lies too far having made a public pronouncement that the school was save for resumption two weeks ago before the students resumed.
From the investigations conducted by SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS, most of the students have paid their school fees in full for this academic session.
The stress and pains encountered by the students cannot be imagined.
One of the students who spoke with our reporter said the school management ought not to have called for a resumption when they knew that they have not resolved their faceoff with the ASUP,
“The Asup issue have been on ground before the covid break When they know they have not resolved it why did they call for resumption. People travel from far distance down to Ede,” he complained.
