Federal Polytechnic, Ede National Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ) has called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders to intervene in the lingering faceoff between the management of FCE and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) resulting in the refusal of lecturers to attend lectures.
The school management lied when it announced the closure of academic activities after two weeks of its resumption over their unpreparedness for the COVID-19 protocols.
They hurriedly announced the closure of the school on Wednesday when the students embarked on a peaceful protects on Tuesday to compel the lecturers to attend lectures in order not to jeopardize their future.
Members of the local branch of ASUP has insisted that the management must meet their demand for the payment of 42 months arrears of their ‘earned allowances’.
Refusal of the school management to accede to the demands of the lecturers has compelled them to boycott classes putting the school in avoidable crisis.
When two elephants fight, the grass and trees suffer. The students are at the receiving end after over six months of staying at home as result of COVID-19 lockdown and ENDSARS protests.
Some of the students came as far as Republic of Benin, North East, Southeast, South South and so on.
However, the FCE Press is appealing to the Office of the President and Federal Ministry of Education to make timely intervention and come to the rescue of the students of Federal Polytechnic Ede to avert escalation of the crisis.
