UPDATE: Ede Poly students protest lecturer’s refusal to commence lectures, block entrance gates

Students of the Federal Polytechnic Ede were at warpath with their lecturers and the management on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 over 42 months of unpaid earned allowance.

The students were angered when the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) insisted that they would not attend classes unless all allowances owed are paid in full.

According to a reliable source, a student who would want to remain anonymous told SOJ WORLDWIDE ONLINE NEWS,  http://www.sojworldnews.com that the students under auspices of Student Union Government (SUG) trooped out to the two entrances leading to the school campus on Tuesday morning locking the two gates.

Some of the lecturers who resumed with their cars walked back home barefooted.

One of the lecturers who spoke with our reporter said they have been denied their ‘earned allowances’ since 2013. Earned allowance is to be paid from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from the school.

When two elephants fight, the grass and trees suffer, the students are at the receiving ends of the crises having almost lost a whole session as a result of COVID-19 and ENDSARS violence that took over six months from their academic session.

Students have suffered enough after two weeks of no lecture.

The ball is in the court of the management of the school led by the Rector, Dr. John Taiwo Adekolawole aka Edaogbogun to put an end to the crisis.

Intervention of the Federal Ministry of Employment and Productive and the Federal Ministry of Education is necessary to avert breakdown of law and order in a once peaceful citadel of learning.
