FIDELITY Bank Plc profile is incomplete without reference to the men that steer the ship of the bank to fame, history cannot forget the first MD/CEO, Nebolisa Arah who built the bank from the scratch with a solid foundation.

The second MD/CEO, Reginald Ihejiahi is my reference point here, he took over from Arah when banking industry was facing unthinkable challenges of recapitalization.  It is either you merge with other banks or collapse.

This was about 2004 when the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Chukwuma Soludo increased minimum capital base of deposit money banks to N25,000,000,000 (Twenty Five Billion Naira Only) from about N1.5 billion Naira.

To fast forward, many staff out of fear resigned to join new network providers like MTN, GLO or Airtel (former Econet, Vmobile) at the time.

Fidelity acquired a bigger bank, FSB International and Manny Bank to become a household name today.

Reginald is a disciplinarian who believes in hard work, integrity with zero tolerance for fraud.

Those whose tributes are published here did not plan it because none of us ever knew that his birthday was on April 11.

I woke up to see a message from one of the legacy staff on my Facebook Page with a fantastic positive attributes of a man who touched many lives no matter your grade or levels in the bank.

My findings revealed April 11 as his birthday, hence this publication, it is better to be late than never.

There is no better day to honour a man who brought smiles to the faces of his subordinates than now. Reginald is a father, a mentor, a counselor, an educator, an administrator, a visionary leader with transformational skills.

I want to seize this opportunity to wish Reginald Ihejiahi a happy belated birthday, long life and prosperity, peace, joy and sound health.  God bless Reginald and his family anywhere they are, favour, grace and mercy of God will speak for them.

I am not unmindful of the progress of the bank under the leadership of Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe. I pray she ends well like Nebolisa Arah and Reginald Ihejiahi.

I would advise her to read what former staff said from the hearts about Reginald.

What Legacy Staff Said About Reginald Ihejiahi

@igiricarssey

I don’t know why this man right here is not trending back to back, I mean like continuously like a broken tap. He is the real GOAT.

What words will I use to describe Reginald Ihejiahi, eh? To understand this man better, you need to understand the cartoon, Pinky and the Brain, Reginald is the Brain 😀🤭🫣

He was not just the leader behind the desk. He was fully involved in various activities outside of core banking like this FHHP (Fidelity Helping Hands Project) Staff will invite him and he will up and go. The vacuum he created was never filled. You are free to prove me wrong.

He encouraged, in fact, mandated staff to have a “Plan B and C”, as long as it doesn’t negatively impact their jobs, and not depend solely on their salaries, can you beat that. This man actually launched the first Art Exhibition of one of his junior staff 😱😱!! Who does that???

As a Contract Staff member, I got SOP(Share Of Profit) of ₦200K and above 🤑 💰 😋 🤤. Don’t let me remember after his tenure 😢.

Is it the practical life lessons he taught every single member of staff? “Clear Desk, Clear Screen Policy”. . .
If you go to this man’s office, you’ll think he doesn’t work, no ‘yama yama’ on his massive desk, just what he’s working with, at that particular moment, after that, it’s a clear desk😊

I remember one time Reginald took himself to one of his staff to get information, me I was standing right next to him while the guy was working on the computer. Reginald’s phone rang and he took the call. My guy’s phone also rang, and he took the call (no big deal) Reginald ended his call, told the person he was on to something and. . .
Now Reg was waiting for my guy to finish his call 😁, omo, I had to nudge the guy before he came back to. . .
Some ogas for don fire the guy, abi?

Any way, may God continue to bless ‘Reg’ wherever he is for the role he played in my life.

If you have experienced Reg, please share your experience.”

The best so far, I can boldly say! He turned my interview with him to an experience I can never forget, a very brilliant man, confident, human and practical! One phrase I got from him that lives with me is”Don’t be long on words and short in action” What a man! May God bless him wherever he is🫰

@adesojiomosebi

@reginaldihejiahi, a God sent man whom God used to make me a man.

As a Contract Staff, I sent him a message that I would like to have interview with him as part of my BSc project. He obliged provided it would not be more than 30 minutes.

From Ladipo Branch, I visited him at his Kofo Abayomi branch, V/I Lagos office.
What amazed me most, an Executive Director of the bank came for official assignment in his office, he told him he was busy, he should give him sometime, he has a visitor. That was me, “a bloody Contract Staff!”.

Instead of 30 minutes, we ended up spending over two hours together telling me stories about life that I can never forget.

He went round the branches in Lagos and discovered that, Contract Staff are the ones doing most of the work in the branches.

He converted 43 of us that had BSc at once in a day. Before he left he converted over 300 Contract Staff to full staff. That was historic!

That singular action forced people without BSc back to school. That was when Fidelity Bank slogan “We Keep Our Word” was effective.

He told those of us who were converted pointedly that we would remain where we were unless we have our second degree.

That forced me to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) for my Executive-MBA program.

Immediately I presented my Second Degree Certificate after two years, I was promoted.

Today, over 80% Contract Staff with good degree are stagnant. The rest is history.

GOD BLESS REGINALD IHEJIAHI.

MD/CEO Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe is actually raising the bar but she can do more for the Contract Staff who are loyal, committed and qualified.

She is 85% better than her immediate predecessor. I don’t want to write about him, about how my colleagues were frustrated out of Fidelity Bank. Many cases are still pending in court.

Dr. Nneka is a woman of substance, I am very proud of her, I will always remain loyal to FIDELITY.”

@ezechinomnso

I remember one time Sir ‘Reg’ told me to go and get an apple gift card for him, he gave me cash to get it from the seller, I went there and the seller told me he doesn’t have now but he will have in 2hrs time, that I should drop the money and come back in 2hrs time to collect it, don’t forget the seller is a known person that I buy anything apple from, after like 1hr Sir ‘Reg’ didn’t see me, he told his Technician assistant to call me, I went to his office and the next thing I heard was where is the card, I said sir I will go and get it in an hour time as I have already paid and the card will come in an hour time, then he asked me a question which I remember till today, which is ‘Do u trust the guy u dropped my money with?” and I said “yes sir I have been his customer for 2yrs plus”, he laughed and said “TRUST IS GOOD, BUT CONTROL IS BETTER “ do u think I don’t trust u, but I put auditors to checkmate you”, believe me that voice rang in my head for a long time. Omo the way I ran to go and get back the cash I didn’t know when I came back with the card. Since that day till date any business or things I want to do that voice still rings, TRUST IS GOOD, CONTROL IS BETTER.”

@eberechichikezie-agwara

He so elevated the position ‘ROSS’ and we walked with our heads high. But later on, the role became a caricature of some sorts.

I became ACCA because he wouldn’t understand how a middle manager didn’t have any certification.

I remember going back home to change my outfit when a notice came suddenly that he wanted to see us. The man would certainly look at your shoes🤣🤣🤣. He influenced me greatly and each time I use that designation ‘FCCA’, I remember him. I heard the sentence “Control is better than trust’ from him.”

Wow. Very meticulous and detailed. Reads every document line by line and underlines every wrong grammar/spelling while giving thumbs up for nice ones.

Very firm and clear in communication. Remembered the age long bankers advice on being prudent.”
