The Household of David church in the Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State has reportedly caught fire.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Lagos State Fire Service spokesperson, Amodu Shakiri, disclosed that the church’s auditorium ceiling was overheating, which caused the ceiling to collapse and ignite a fire.
He added that the damage is being managed by members of the fire department and other relevant agencies at the scene.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency, the fire broke out at the back of the church and was discovered by people passing by, who alerted the staff inside.
NEMA, in a statement, confirmed that no injury or casualty was recorded in the fire incident.
The statement by NEMA read,
“A fire broke out at Household of David Church on Surulere Industrial Road, off Adeniyi Jones in Ikeja, Lagos, around 00:11 hours.
“Fortunately, responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated at the rear end of the church.”
“The church, leased and insured, had organized a 5-day crusade starting this evening and ending on February 4, 2024.
“Due to the expected congregant turnout, church workers underwent training by the Fire Service.
“Responding agencies include NEMA, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Lagos Emergency Management Agency, State Fire Service, and the Police,” the statement read.
