Four Fulani Herdsmen suspected to be kidnappers arrested in Ondo

Four Fulani herdsmen suspected to be kidnappers were arrested in connection with the abduction of a woman and a boy in Akoko area of Ondo State.
The four culprits were arrested by officers of the Ondo State Police Command in Idoani, Ose local government area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Adamu Ibrahim, Muhammadu Haruna, Saliu Bawa and Bashir Ibrahim.
It was gathered that the four men were earlier accused of kidnapping the son of their colleague, Mohammad Gambo, in the same agrarian community.

Mr. Gambo had paid a ransom of N200,000 to the suspects before the young boy was set free.
Femi Joseph, the police spokesman in Ondo State, confirmed this to journalists in Akure on Tuesday after the suspects were apprehended.
Mr. Joseph said that the four men had confessed to being part of a kidnap gang that terrorizes motorists and residents in the Akoko area of the state.
He said that the suspects were nabbed after Mr. Gambo reported the case of his abducted son to police.
Mr. Joseph disclosed that Mr. Gambo did not report the case until after had been released.
“It was after they [kidnappers] released the boy that Mr. Gambo reported the case to the police at the station. These same persons abducted another woman, Hadiza Saliu, on December 13, 2017.
“They were demanding for ransom from her husband when she escaped from the den where she was held hostage. Despite her escape, these kidnap gangs were still calling to demand money from the poor husband.

“They reported to us and we instructed them to play along and provide them the money. Unknowingly, some of our men with the aid of the vigilante group laid an ambush for the gang and one of them, Adamu, was arrested when he rushed out of the bush to pick the money,” Mr. Joseph narrated.
The police spokesman stated further that the arrest of Mr. Ibrahim, after thorough a interrogation, led police to arrest of the remaining men of the kidnap gang at their hideout.
He noted that the police would prosecute the arrested men for their crimes and also asked residents to continually furnish the force with useful information on the activities of criminal elements.
