The Osun Tourism Stakeholders Association (Aviation, Hospitality, Entertainment, Culture & Tourism, Media etc) paid a courtesy visit to the Supervisor, Osun State Ministry of Home Affairs, Culture & Tourism, Dr. Obawale Adebisi on Tuesday, January 23, 2019, in his office at Abere in the State Capital, Osogbo.

The Association led by its President, Captain Emmanuel was warmly received by Dr. Adebisi and the team of technocrats.

The brief meeting held in the office of the supervisor centered purely on tourism and its potentials to harness and generate substantial income to boost the economy of the state and individual stakeholders.

The Vice President of the Association, Comrade Saheed Fakeye gave the mission, vision and the objectives of the association and their willingness to collaborate with the state government to diversify the economy from the monthly reliance on Federal Allocation to the hidden treasures in tourism.

The Honourable Supervisor said he was highly excited and delighted meeting the tourist experts whose agenda tallies with the vision of the incumbent government.

He added that Governor Gboyega Oyetola wants Tourism to be the bedrock of Osun State Economy.

He went further on a lighter mood that,

“…you have made my day, I am delighted to receive you, in fact, you have made my year.”

The discussions led to the information of discovery of two vital Tourist Sites, water-based tourism at Owala Dam, Olorunda Local Government and Mountain Climbing at Oke Oyee, Iba Community, Ifelodun Local Government in Osun State.

debisi who would not take anything to chances immediately invited all his top Directors and made arrangement for an 18 Seater Bus for an immediate visit to the tourist sites.

To the delight of all, the team visited the Owala Dam which was about 20 minutes drive from the Main Road.  To the amazement of the team, no one knows such an untapped tourist site exists in Osun State.

Owala Dam is a natural Dam on a very large expanse of land with about 100 residents whose occupation was mainly fishing were seen selling and buying fish with artificial canoes at the shore of the dam.

It was a beautiful place to behold with cool breeze replica of what we see at Badagry beach, bar beach and other beaches in Lagos that generates the most revenue for the state.

After traversing the seashore, the team came back to Osogbo and proceeded to the Oke Oyee in Iba Community as early as 7.30 am on Wednesday with 18 seater bus. The mountain was naturally good for recreation and picnics that has enough space to accommodate over 1000 people at the bottom of the mountain.

It was fun for the Dr. Adebisi led team climbing the yet to be confirmed length of metres from the bottom to the top of the mountain.

The mountain has stages where tourists can have a stopover to rest or continue to reach the top or decide to descend to the base of the mighty rock.

It was very exciting climbing the natural mountain that can be compared with any tourist sites around the globe.

Team members who spoke with SOJ WORLDWIDE correspondent unanimously said,

“Considering what they have seen at Oke Ayee and Owala Dam, the end to the era of going to Dubai or other countries for tourism or recreation is already in sight.”

Captain Emmanuel and Comrade Saheed Fakeye commended the Home Affairs, Arts and Culture Supervisor, Dr. Adebisi for his passion for tourism and for the action taken so far in discovering the potentials in tourism in Osun.

It would be recalled that Lagos State had a cash transaction of N10 billion Naira in December 2018 from Tourism which includes, entertainment, hospitality, Cinemas etc.
