The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello said he had to take loan of N10b in addition with over N1.2b Paris Club refund and the November and December federal allocations to pay civil servants in the state to clear four months’ salary arrears.
He made this known to the State House correspondents at Abuja.
He said, “In Kogi State today, we are up to date as far as payment of salaries is concerned. In December, Mr. President magnanimously assisted us with another tranche of Paris Club refund. Our own was N1.2bn and some other change on top (sic).

“We didn’t just stop at that, we borrowed up to N10bn and added November/December allocations to our figures before we were able to clear four months’ arrears at a stretch before Christmas Day.”
From January, however, the governor said workers in the state would be earning salaries based on the number of times they were present at work.

He continued, “As from this month, civil servants in Kogi State will be expected to clock in when they arrive for work, including at the local government level.
“As people come to work and clock on, that is exactly how their salaries will be generated. It is online; it is automated, so nobody is going to cheat anybody. That is the direction we are going in the state.”
