GTBank:  The workplace assault of a senior staff of GT Bank,  Edward Freeman by the Managing Director has drawn the ire of Liberian Ministry of Labour.  The ministry has taken up the issue with the bank with a strong worded letter on Tuesday.

In the memo made available to SOJWORLD.COM, the Labour Ministry said, “The Ministry of Labour condemns and terms as unacceptable, the alleged action of Mr. Ayodeji David Bejide, Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank for allegedly assaulting and humiliating a Liberian employee, Mr. Edward Freeman at the bank Head Office in Liberia…on Tuesday, August 28, 2018…”

According to the contents of the letter, the Ministry of Justice through Liberian National Police has taken up the case. 

The police have subsequently arrested Mr. Bejide in order to face prosecution after a thorough investigation.

In a swift reaction by Guaranty Trust Bank management, a statement issued said, it regretted the action of its staff. They had launched investigation into the matter and the staff suspended.

“The staff accused of this assault have been relieved of his duties pending the outcome of our investigation in line with our corporate governance standards.”

“…we wish to strongly affirm that at GTBank Liberia, we do not condone any form of assault in the workplace nor do we compromise on our principle that every GTBank Liberia staff should be able to come to work without fear of violence, abuse or harassment.”

It would be recalled that the Managing Director of GTBank Liberia, Mr. Ayodeji Bejide assaulted Mr. Freeman with a calculator on Tuesday.

The video of the workplace assault on Freeman has gone viral with people giving uncomplimentary comments about Mr. Bejide.

Liberians said, Nigerian employers are often aggressive toward Liberians employees and speak to them in any manner and fashion.

Few former employees who spoke on condition of anonymity said, Bejide is known for verbal assaults.

A female employee told our correspondent that she resigned because of his behavior, especially toward female staffers.

She said, the GTBank MD talks down on employees and Senior Staffers like they are his kids, and address them in any manner.
