An Ignosere High Court heard how Mr Adams Bello was killed by the police stray bullets in August 2016 in Ojo, Lagos allegedly fired by a Police Sergeant, Emmanuel Uyanweke
Bello’s son, Afeez, told Justice Adedayo Akintoye that the bullet hit his father in the chest.
He testified as the first prosecution witness in Uyanweke’s trial for manslaughter.
The Lagos State Government arraigned the policeman on February 14, 2018.
He pleaded not guilty.
On July 3, Bello opened his testimony, while led in evidence by an Assistant Director in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mr Babatunde Sunmonu.
He said his father was on his way to see a friend and, as he passed by Southbound Hotel at Okokomaiko, he was hit by a bullet from Uyanweke’s rifle. He died instantly.

According to him, there was a fight at the hotel at the time.
The witness said his sister, who called him on phone, told him what happened.
“When I got there, I found my father in a pool of blood,” Bello added.
At the resumed hearing Tuesday, the witness who was cross-examined by the Defence Counsel, Mrs Pamela Okoro-Igwe, said he was not present when the police officer killed his father.
“But I was informed by my father’s sister, Aminat Bello,” he said.
The witness said his father was taken to a hospital at Okokomiko, where he was confirmed dead.

After listening to the evidence of the witness, Justice Adedayo Akintoye, adjourned till October 16, for continuation of trial.
According to the charge, the defendant committed the offence on August 18, 2016 at about 8pm, along White Street, Okokomaiko.
The defendant allegedly unlawfully killed Adams Bello by shooting him in the chest with an AK47 rifle with registration No. 5070.

The offence contravened Section 227 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
