A man identified as Adewale Lukman was arrested along with his friends for conspiring to rob his wife, Funmilayo with sum of N159,000.
The names of Lukman accomplices are Bidemi Fatai, Saheed Owolabi and Babatunde Ageele.
It was gathered that both husband and wife lived together at their house on Leadway Estate, Eruwen, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Our correspondent learnt that on July 23, 2018, Funmilayo, a building contractor, got a business deal of N159,000.
When she was given the money, her husband reportedly advised her to deposit it in her bank account.
On getting to the bank in company with her husband, Funmilayo was reportedly turned back because she had yet to register for her Bank Verification Number.
The couple were said to have left for home with the money.
learnt that while the woman went out with the money, the husband went out with his friends.
Adewale allegedly told his friends about the money.
One of the friends, Fatai, was said to have returned to the house around 10pm, thinking the woman left the money at home.
While searching for the cash, Funmilayo reportedly arrived in the house with the money.
A scuffle was said to have ensued between the duo, as the suspect forcefully took the money and fled.
Funmilayo was said to have reported the case to the police and the suspect was arrested.
Upon interrogation, Fatai allegedly mentioned the names of the victim’s husband and other friends as accomplices.
They were arraigned before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court on two counts of robbery.
The charges read in part,
“That you, Adewale Lukmon, Bidemi Fatai, Saheed Owolabi and Babatunde Agele, and others at large on July 23, around 10pm on Leadway Estate, Erunwen, Ikorodu, in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit; robbery, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.â€
“That you, Adewale Lukmon, Bidemi Fatai, Saheed Owolabi and Babatunde Agele and others at large, on the same date, time and place, at the aforesaid magisterial district, did rob one Adewale Funmilayo, and unlawfully dispossessed her of the sum of N159,000, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 297(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2015.â€
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defendants were granted bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till October 11, 2018
