Tragedy struck in Ayedun Area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, as a woman and her nine-day old were killed when a water reservoir fell on a building, on Wednesday.
The deceased were said to be sleeping in the room of the collapsed building when the incident happened. The baby was said to have been christened less than 24 hours earlier when the incident occurred.
A resident of the area, who was at the scene, and spoke on condition of anonymity, narrated that a water reservoir filled with water beside the building fell on it and killed the deceased who were sleeping in the room.
He added that he learnt that some other occupants of the building were also injured in the incident.
The resident said, “The water reservoir fell on the building, while the woman and her child were sleeping. Before the neighbours got to the scene and evacuated the victims, they had died.”
According to the resident, the victims were evacuated and deposited at a morgue of an undisclosed hospital in Akure.

The Police Public Relations Officers of the state command , Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, saying investigation had commenced into the incident.
“We have commenced investigation into the matter,” the PPRO stated.
