Some of my friends would be amazed at this story I will be sharing this morning, but I think it’s important I share it.

I received a really shocking news in the year 2017, November to be precise during my BSc convocation.

On this particular day, after our convocation, I started receiving calls everywhere from my parents, friends and neighbors asking why I didn’t attend my convocation.

I actually couldn’t attend the convocation that day because I was serving in Edo state, Benin city.

I wanted to know why people were calling me until my dad called that same night screaming at the top of his voice asking why I didn’t inform him that I finished with a first class and why I didn’t travel down for my convocation after he insisted I travel.

This was when I got confused! Me! Finished with a first class?

Then he said neighbors and friends have been calling him and my mum asking why I didn’t attend the convocation as my name was mentioned during the convocation as a first class graduate and my name was written on the honors list as a first class graduate.

This one shocked me that day as my friends started sending me pictures of the convocation bulletin which had my name and one other lady in my class as the only first class graduates of my department that year!

My course mates started sending me WhatsApp messages trying to know what happened!

I was also confused and shocked about what happened.

My parents didn’t believe University of Ibadan could make such a mistake, but I made it clear to them that I finished with a second class upper.

I left it aside until when I wanted to register for my postgraduate studies and I needed to submit my BSc certificate which made me request for my certificate!

Ahh! I was in disbelief when I saw first class written also on my certificate.

I remember many people gave me several advises, some said I should use the certificate to get a good job, some said I should not return it!

I could have even used the certificate to get some privilege rights for my postgraduate studies then, but I knew my grades in school and I knew i was holding a wrong certificate which wasn’t mine.

I had to meet one of my lecturers then and he told me this is what I could sue university of Ibadan for as it was a really serious mistake they did.

I remember the day I went to the certificate office and told them what happened and also applied for a change in certificate, everyone around tried to help me as fast as they could because they didn’t want it to get to the “bosses” in charge as the “grave” mistake could cause some of them their jobs.

The correction was made on my certificate, I submitted the initial one(first class) and a new one(second class upper) was given to me.

But, there is nothing you can tell my dad till today, his daughter, Blessing Banjo, is a First Class Graduate.

What lessons did you learn from this?

If you read till now, thank you!

Please share, like and give me a comment😉

Have a blessed week.

Lots of Love From Me,
Blessing Banjo
