Close friends of a 28-year-old woman, who was allegedly burned to death in her car by her husband, have described their relationship as abusive. Eyewitness Blebo Bokaba, who was the last person to see the victim alive, stated that the couple had been together for years and recounted instances of violence and control.
In 2022, the husband, Tebogo Setlhare, allegedly broke the victim’s arm during an argument, and there were previous incidents where he severely beat her while she was pregnant with their now three-year-old child. Bokaba mentioned that the victim was last seen alive during a holiday with friends before the tragic incident occurred.
The victim’s burned body and car, a Mini Cooper, were discovered in Mmakau.
The husband has been apprehended and charged with several offenses, including kidnapping, robbery, murder, defeating the ends of justice, and possession of suspected stolen property. Bokaba explained that due to a lack of network service at the lodge where they were staying in Brits, they were not paying attention to their phones and were unaware of the unfolding tragedy.
