EDO State Deputy Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prof. Emmanuel Odigie broke down in tears on Arise Television live program over the loss of PDP to APC in the governorship election held on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
He said he was pained because of the people who came from diaspora to vote for Esue Ighodalo but got disappointed on how the election was allegedly massively rigged.
Odigie laments,
“Of course we have the legacy PDP that pulled out for APC to perpetuate this evil on Edo people.
You know for the first time in my life, I broke down before women at the Airport yesterday, I saw four women two from Houston, two from Atlanta Georgia. They said they are coming to Nigeria to vote for the first time.

They came to mobilize their tenants and family to vote for Asue Ighodalo. In tears they told me they will never return to Nigeria, that they thought with what Asiwaju did in Lagos, with the way he fought for democracy, that he would be the one to uphold democracy and protect and preserve our democracy and strengthen the institution.
Behold, under his watchful eyes of President Bola Tinubu, look at what is happening. The women cried, I broke down in tears and I wept for my city and Nigeria.”

Arise TV Anchor, Rufai, “Prof. Odigie, please cry no more, I can feel your pains, can you hear me?”
Odigie: “And I say to myself it is well, how can we ever get it right? Over 200 Edo indigenes in diaspora came to vote and mobilize for Ighodalo. If they did this evil to project the best candidate that has the best intellectual depth and capacity to articulate to do what is needed and take Edo to the next level, I wouldn’t be feeling this bad.“
