BEING THE TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE OSUN STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF THE ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS(APC) TODAY THURSDAY 28TH DAY OF MAY, 2020 ON THE STATE OF THE PARTY, AT THE STATE PARTY SECRETARIAT, GBONGAN/IBADAN ROAD, OGO-OLUWA, OSOGBO.

No Crack In Osun APC, No Petition Against Prince Famodun to APC National Executive Council

Gentlemen of the press, you are welcome to this press conference. The intention of the State Executive Council, of the All Progressive Congress, Osun State Chapter, is to correct some trending misinformation, lies and absolute falsehood that some naysayers have been peddling around in respect of the state of affairs in our party in our state. For instance, some people suspected to be disgruntled members of the main opposition party in Osun State in their apparent failed attempt to feed the public and members of our party with lies in order for them to believe that the APC, Osun State is not cohesive and united, have been reeling out stories through the social media and the traditional means of dissemmiating information depicting false state of affairs that the APC, Osun State Chapter, had splited into two factions. The rumour also had it that our indefatigable former governor and the current Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, is leading a faction, while the other faction is said to have been loyal to the current performing Governor, Mr. Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola and that the removal of the chairman of our party, Prince Gboyega Famodun, is being orchestrated through a petition written to the National Executive Council of our party.

All the claims above, are a mere composition, fabrication and conjured wishes of the promoters and executors of such fallacious situation of the state of affairs in our party. The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State Chapter, at all time, operates within the ambit of the party’s Constitution, other relevant laws and the directives from the National Headquarters of our party. For this, there is no ground for petition for the removal of Prince Gboyega Famodun as the chairman of the party in the state.

Information also has it that the agents of rifts and confusion whose primodial mission is to cause distraction, disharmony, disunity and schism in the party for reasons best known to them that the incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Interior Minister, also are at loggerhead. As if this is not enough, the rumour peddlers have been feeding the unsuspecting members of the public with an absolute falsehood that the National Executive Council(NEC) of our party has removed Prince Famodun as the state chairman of our party sequel to the alleged petition against him. The rumour merchants also go as far as saying that Ogbeni Aregbesola is sponsoring the State Secretary of the party, Alhaji Rasaq Salinshile, as the replacement for Prince Famodun.

The kernel of this press conference is to debunk the afore-mentioned falsehood meant and skillfully designed to disrupt the subsisting smooth operation of our party and the conduct of the affairs of the Government of the state led by Mr. Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola.
It is neither true that Prince Famodun is having any petition hanging on his neck at the National Headquarters of our party nor correct that there is a petition against him by any member of our party at any particular point in time against the tenure of the current State Executive Council of the APC in Osun State.

It is aposite to state that it is part of the constitutional duties of the NEC of our party to organise a state congress whenever such body deems fit to do so. It is on record that there has been no information or directive from the NEC of our party, either orally or in writing, as to when congresses at the ward, local and state levels of APC, Osun State, will take place.

For the sake of emphasis, it is the prerogative of the NEC of the APC to organise party congresses, the constitutional power of which is beyond what could be arrogated to any other body or individual(s) within the party.

The NEC has the latitude and due legal authority to fix the congresses dates anytime it wishes. It may be likened to the tail wagging of a dog for any individual or body, who is not familiar with the orientation and operation of the progressives in Nigeria to be instigating the party’s NEC to hold congresses in the Osun State APC.
We are hereby informing the public that the news that our party is factionalised in the state into both Oyetola’s camp and Aregbesola’s camp is an utter falsehood and misinformation from the pit of hell.

The APC in Osun State is ever united and intact. Those who are canvassing, promoting and wishing the disintegration of our party in our state should have a change of heart in the interest of continuous delivering of dividends of democracy by the forward-looking administration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
On the allegation that the Interior Minister is sponsoring Alhaji Razaq Salinshile against Prince Gboyega Famodun, such development still remains within the realm of conjecture and speculation, while it is worthwhile to state clearly that it is within the purview of any individual to aspire for any office in the party, but the aspiration can only be pursued and possibly achieved if our party in the state is rancour-free.

There is peace and orderliness in our party in Osun State and we are also endowed with resourceful elders such as Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Sola Akinwumi e. t. c, who had at one time or the other intervened to settle disputes in the party in the past and with well articulated mechanism for settlement of any dispute arising within the party. The APC is one family in Osun State.

Though we acknowledge that in the recent time, there is an agitation to have a congress wherein officers of the party at ward, local and state levels will be elected, such agitation cannot be said to be removal of the Osun State chairman of the APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, or as an agitation against continued stay in office of the officers of the party at the relevant levels. However, we should recall that it was because the Osun Governorship Election that was not far from the time congresses were conducted in the state chapters of the APC, that prompted our party’s NEC to engage in the postponement of the congresses which ought to have been held since October, 2018. There is nothing we do that is without the knowledge of our party’s national headquarters in Abuja. For instance, we were allowed concession of tenure to give room to stability of our party during the year preceding the presidential election. The protracted litigation that dotted the governorship election of our candidate which spanned roughly one year could also be given as a factor that partly militated against the holding of the congresses.

The last straw that broke the camel’s back was the unforseen coronavirus pandemic which has been causing ripples across the world. This COVID-19 scourge has forced the closing down of the National Secretariat of our party for over three months’ running. It is known to all and sundry that no meaningful activity can hold in any part of the country as long as coronavirus pandemic remains with us. Here, we are talking about a global natural plague which no human being have control over. Let me state it here very clearly that if there is any agitation, such could not be personalised. The agitation is not about Prince Famodun but the entire State Executive Council of the APC, Osun State Chapter.

We, therefore, appeal to all loyal members of our party to remain calm and peaceful in their conduct within and without the party. Thanks for your patience and listening.
