THE decomposing body of the Anambra State House of Assembly member Justice Azuka was found at the 2nd Niger Bridge.
Azuka was kidnapped on Christmas Eve in 2024.
The remains of Azuka who was a member of Labour Party who represented Onitsha North constituency was discovered in the early hours of Thursday, over a month after he was abducted, spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed in a statement.
Justice Azuka lawmaker was kidnapped by a gang of gunmen while returning home at Ugwunapampa road, Inland Town in Onitsha, on Dec. 24, 2024.

According to Ikenga, the Joint Security team, comprising Police and the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) Operatives on a mission to rescue the lawmaker, regrettably found his lifeless body in the early hours of today, at the Second Niger Bridge.
“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team has taken over the scene, and operation is ongoing for possible arrests of the perpetrators,” he said.
Justice Azuka was sworn in as a member of Anambra House of Assembly a after a court ruling ousted Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was initially declared the winner of the 2023 election.
Some reports indicate that the Alleged kidnappers of the lawmaker took security operatives to where they buried his remains after they were arrested late Wednesday night.
The Anambra Police Force had previously announced the recovery of a vehicle belonging to the lawmaker in Onitsha.
A police team deployed had sighted the vehicle abandoned on Upper Iweka Road of the commercial city.
Members of Labour Party in the House of Representatives had also in a recent statement lamented the failure of security operatives to rescue the lawmaker many weeks after he was abducted.
The lawmaker, in a statement by their chairman also bemoaned the state of insecurity in Anambra State.
