In an interview with the BBC, Soyinka said what he would want Buhari to do is to give a national broadcast to the Nation in a stern and unambiguous terms.
“Say openly, yes I know I am the Patron of the Cattle Rearers Association…I am a Cattle ranchers myself, its a business and I run on a business terms. I do not run my business by killing people, by raping, by displacing by torturing. I do not run my business by occupying the land that does not belong to me.”
“And I am warning all business people in the food commodity, all cattle rearers, whatever comes to you for illegal occupation or for trespassing on other people’s properties is your bessiness and am ordering the armies and the security forces to back people’s efforts in forcing you out.”
“I expect nothing less even at this stage, it is late already but it is not too late. This is the language I expect from Muhammadu Buhari.”

“And as long as that language does not come I must consider him as quite complicit in what is going on because the bucks stop at his desk.”
On a question about his biggest fear about where we are, Soyinka speaks,
“We may enter a phase of serial skirmishes which are more and more violent less and less focus and swell into, I hate to use the word, may develop into a civil war and a very untidy messy one. That is my biggest fear and unless and action is taken…”
