The last may not have been heard on the revelation by the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq over the non delivery of campaign funds sourced by the party for the prosecution of the 2019 general elections.
Less than 24 hours after the Governor dropped the bombshell at a book launch on the schism which had caused friction between him and leaders of the party in the state prior to the election, the spiral effect is unsettling the ranks of the opposition with the response of the former Chairman Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa on how the controversial money was spent.
The embattled ex-chairman, Hon Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa in his reaction with an online media had indicted the Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed for being the sole custodian and appropriator of the funds.
In a phone conversation with the medium, Bolarinwa said the donations which Governor Abdulrazaq said was not delivered to him, was neither given to him too, stating: “I don’t know anything about that, no donation made to the party was given to me.”
Bolarinwa in giving credence to the Abdulrazaq’s allegations admitted Lai Mohammed actually sourced for campaign funds wich was raised through donations received from far and near for the election project, which eventually was solely managed by the Minister.
“I told you that we went and approached Alhaji Lai Mohammed who went and looked for money, I don’t know how and where he got the money but we went on campaign because we wanted to win the election, ” Bolarinwa reportedly stated.
This further brings to the fore, the propriety or otherwise of the Minister’s action to have solely on behalf of Kwara APC solicit for funds and spend same without the knowledge of the party chairman and the principal contestant who is the party state’s gubernatorial candidate?
This revelation by Bolarinwa and his ignorance of the monies received by Lai Mohammed for the 2019 elections further indicts the Minister and confirms his complicity in the alleged misappropriation of campaign funds.
