MAN beaten to death in Sokoto for alleged blasphemy

A man identified as Usman Buda was beaten to death for allegedly blaspheming Prophet Muhammad in Sokoto on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

 

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the killing of Buda in a statement by its Spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai.

 

 

Rufai said on Sunday, 25 June, 2023 at about 9:55am, the command got a distress call at about 9:20am that one Usman Buda ‘of Gwandu LGA, a Butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir allegedly blasphemed Muhammad, and that as a result, he was mobbed and attacked by some Muslims faithful and inflicted serious injuries on him.

 

 

He said upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro and DPO Kwanni led a team of Policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

Rufai stated that on arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious; where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) for treatment and was later confirmed dead at the said hospital.

 

 

He said the area is calm, adding that the Police had begun investigation into the matter.

 

 

The statement read:

“On 25th June 2023 at about 0955hrs, a distress call was received at about 0920hrs that one Usman Buda ‘M’ of Gwandu LGA a Butcher at Sokoto Abbatoir allegedly blasphemed the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW); as a result, he was mobbed and attacked by some Muslims faithful and inflicted Serious injuries on him.

“Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police, Area Commander Metro and DPO Kwanni led a team of policemen and all other operational commanders to the scene.

“On arrival, the mob escaped the scene and left the victim unconscious; where he was rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodio Teaching Hospital Sokoto (UDUTH) for treatment and was later confirmed dead at the said Hospital. Meanwhile, the area is calm.”

On 12 May, 2022, Deborah Samuel a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, was killed an burnt for allegedly blaspheming Muhammad.

  1. It is as usual the north of Nigeria is legendary for non compliance with regulations, what is the end of Deborah Samuel’s case so this also will go same way but the righteous judge of all shall re judge at his own time
