FORMER Southeast Spokesperson for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the 2023 Presidential elections and the Chairman of Forum of former members of Enugu State House of Assembly, Josef Onoh has reacted to a call by a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the North, Alhaji Jadda Garko calling on President Bola Tinubu to sack or redeploy Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi.

Garko accused Umahi for abandoning road projects and contractors in the Northern Region, describing his actions as “tribalistic and partisan.”

In his reaction, Onoh who was surprised, said there could be a mix-up somewhere from Gasko, ” he must have thought of someone else but David Umahi whom cross section of Nigerians along the six geopolitical zones said, he is one of the shinning light in Tinubu’s cabinet.”

“Umahi did not only executed quality road constructions, most of the road construction he rehabilitated and that are being constructed were skewed in favour of the North, therefore the threat of President Bola Tinubu losing 60 percent votes from the North is unwarranted, baseless and misleading.”

For avoidance of doubts, I will highlight some ongoing projects in the North comprising of the North East, North West and the North Central as was released by the Honourable Minister of Works in his Press Briefings few weeks ago.

“On 15th August, 2024, I visited and inspected the Bauchi – Gombe road and Section III (Azare – Potiskum) of the Kano – Maiduguri Dual
Carriageway within Bauchi State with the Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Mohammed and other top
government officials of both Bauchi State.

While we rely on the government of Bauchi State to see what palliatives are to be provided, the Ministry had commenced the process of redesigning the failed sections
of the road to be presented to Mr.
President for his kind attention.

We must emphasise that these road failures are purely due to climate
change which has nothing to do with the quality of the road already completed to the satisfaction of the Federal Ministry of Works. We are monitoring all the federal roads especially within the States where flooding is forecast to occur.”

Aside scores of ongoing road constructions, the Four Legacy Projects of Mr. President, the North also has the largest shares as shown below:

Construction of Abuja – Calabar Super Highway (Trans Saharan Super Highway).
Construction of Akwanga – Jos – Bauchi – Gombe Road.

From the few above, I would want Garko to point out where the entire Northern Region have been left out.

It is highly disturbing that Garko should have done his home work before coming to the public to “give a dog a bad name in order to hang it”. He is playing the script of the opposition rather than being a loyal member of the APC.

You cannot be praising the President and at the same time destroying his legacy projects of Renewed Hope and still threatening him that he would lose 60 percent votes to the North in 2027. This is contradictory in every sense.

His Excellency, Engr. David Umahi is an asset to the present administration whose quality works speak volumes within 12 months of assumption of power as a Minister of Works.

I will urge Garko to search his conscience before coming into public domain to misinform, mislead and misguide innocent Nigerians.”
