The last of the first generation of highlife musicians in Nigeria, Chris Ajilo is dead.
The popular highlife musician who sang the popular EKO O GBAGBERE RARA O was said to have died on Saturday morning of February 20, 2021 at the Wesley Guild Hospital in Ilesha where he passed on.
“It is a painful loss to us. I took Orlando to see him on Thursday at his house. Pa was so happy,” Latoya revealed.
Ajilo known for his songs, Eko Gba Gbere, Ariwo and Emi Mimo is the last of generation of veterans like Victor Olaiya, Bobby Benson and others that formed the Nigerian Union of Musician, the first guild for musicians. Ajilo was also a producer for polygraph turned Polygram Records who produced several albums notably Chief Olisa Osadebe’s Osondu Owendi.
Now that political space in Nigeria is open and gaining momentum towards the Anambra State governorship election in 2021, Osun State in 2022 and the general elections in 2023, anyone who intends to be a participant in these elections need to start with a bold step now in order to finish well in victory.
