A notorious kidnapper
in the Ikorodu neighborhood of Lagos State was fatally shot in a gun shootout with the police on Thursday.
The shootout also resulted in the successful rescue of two victims who had been abandoned by the kidnappers at their hideouts in the area.
According to the Punch, the deceased kidnapper and his gang had abducted several individuals in the community during an operation that occurred a few weeks ago.

After the operation, it was reported that the suspects reached out to the families of the victims and demanded a ransom of 20 million naira in exchange for the release of those he had kidnapped.
During the negotiation process, it was discovered that the victims’ families had informed the Lagos State Police Command, which then dispatched officers to investigate the case and rescue the victims.
However, when the agreed-upon day for ransom payment arrived and the kidnappers saw that the families were accompanied by policemen to the designated location, they opened fire.

The Spokesperson for the State Police, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, responded to the incident by stating that the police officers returned fire against the criminals. He further explained that during the exchange of gunfire, one of the suspects was fatally shot by the police, while two other victims were successfully rescued.

Hundeyin confirmed the case, saying, “Yes, I can confirm the incident.” “Two victims were rescued, and one of the suspects was killed during a gun battle with the police.”
He went on to explain that the victims had been kidnapped since March 26 and that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 20 million naira for their release. However, the families of the victims negotiated and agreed on a ransom of 3 million naira.
“So, upon receiving information from the families of the victims, the Police were promptly alerted, and an investigation was initiated without delay.”
“On the agreed-upon date of April 4th, the kidnappers set up an ambush upon spotting the police, but the police swiftly responded and neutralized one of the kidnappers, causing the others to flee.” Subsequently, the two victims were successfully rescued.
