According to Dr. Omoyele the Corps is not involved in the prosecution itself but plays a vital role in ensuring that proper investigations are carried out, and case file passed to the Attorney General’s office for the next steps in the judicial process.

The Corps Commander, Dr. Hon. Omoyele Isaac Adekunle, made a public clarification during a radio appearance on Fresh 104.9 FM on Monday, where he unequivocally stated that the law, as assented by Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, is designed to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the Amotekun Corps in carrying out its duties.

The Corps Commander explained that the Amotekun Amendment Bill outlines a clear and lawful process for handling criminal cases. Specifically, Section 6, 4(1)(k) of the law mandates that after the completion of investigations, the Amotekun Corps would forward each case file to the Office of the Attorney General of Osun State for legal advice and prosecution.

Dr. Omoyele emphasized that the Corps is not involved in the prosecution itself but plays a vital role in ensuring that proper investigations are carried out, and case file passed to the Attorney General’s office for the next steps in the judicial process.

Dr. Omoyele further criticized the ongoing campaign of misinformation, urging critics to properly verify the contents of the amendment bill before making public allegations against the Corps or its leadership.

He expressed disappointment that instead of applauding the collaborative efforts of the legislative and executive arms of government in improving the law, some individuals are attempting to politicize the issue and discredit the progress being made in Osun State.

“It is disheartening that, while similar Amotekun Corps in states like Ondo and Oyo have faced no such backlash for their prosecution-related amendments, some elements in Osun are attempting to derail our progress,” said Dr. Omoyele. “The Osun Amotekun Corps is a nonpartisan, law-abiding institution that serves the entire population of the state, regardless of political affiliation.”

The Corps Commander emphasized that the newly-assented law is a positive step forward for Osun State and will significantly benefit all residents, ensuring that Amotekun operatives can work effectively and impartially, without political interference.

He noted that the law not only strengthens the capacity of the Corps to maintain peace and security but also aligns the Corps with the broader judicial framework, reinforcing the rule of law in the state.

In light of recent false publications aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Osun Amotekun Corps and its leadership, the Corps has called on the public to disregard such unverified information.

The Corps also warned that these misleading reports are part of a calculated campaign to undermine the Agency standing and its good work in the state.

The Osun Amotekun Corps has therefore urged all individuals to refrain from spreading unverified, defamatory information, and to support the Corps in its mission to enhance the safety and security of Osun State through legal, nonpartisan means.
