The Osun State Chapter of the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, has attributed the violence which occurred across local government secretariats in the state on Monday, February 17, 2025 as a result of ignorance of the Appeal Court judgment on the part of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Osun IPAC Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande made this observation while featuring on L’agbo Oselu, a live radio political programme on Uniq FM, Ilesa on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Pastor Akande while alluding that the confusion stemmed from the interpretation of the judgment of the Appeal Court sitting in Akure on Monday maintained that the crisis was not tied to the control of Local government funds.

The Osun IPAC Chairman added that some lawyers were also confused about the judgment.

He said,

when the matter resulted in confusion, both parties should have approached the court again for judicial interpretation so that the citizens should know. Many Nigerians were confused as a result of the Appeal Court judgment.”

He lamented the spate of violence stating that it has never been a solution to any disagreement.

Violence has never been the solution to any disagreement but rather dialogue. War has never brought peace and in the end, we all need to seat and dialogue.”

While insisting that peace has finally returned to Osun State after the Local Government crisis, Pastor Akande expressed confidence that a state of emergency will not be declared in the state.

The political parties have talked to and cautioned their members to maintain the peace. Peace has returned to the state after the crisis yesterday. We believe God that there will never be state of emergency in Osun.

“As of today, we need to advice the aggrieved political parties to allow peace to reign in the state. We are all citizens of Osun before any political affiliation. We all want the advancement of the state which violence will not bring to us.”

Akande also assured electorates in the state that the Local Government election will hold as planned on Saturday adding that all the 18 registered political parties in the state will participate in the poll.
