Osun Speaker, Owoeye Reiterates Importance Of Oversight Functions

The Speaker of the State of Osun, Hon Timothy Owoeye reiterated the importance of the oversight functions of the legislature to bring about good governance and good dividends of democracy.

Hon Owoeye made the statement when he played host to all the members of the Osun Online Media Practitioners Association (OOMPA) in his office at Abere on Thursdsy

The Speaker expressed confidence in the newly inaugurated cabinet of Governor Gboyega Oyetola that it has what it takes to propel the state to enviable heights

Owoeye said the House of Assembly is ready to provide diligent oversight functions to ensure that no one is lagging behind in his duties.

The speaker said, “the legislative provides checks and balances to the executive and the present house will perform optimally in that regard to ensure we deliver good governance to the citizens and residents of Osun.”

He urged the media Practitioners in the state to ensure that their reports are in the best interest of the state and the country, adding that everyone owns a duty of contributing to the development of the country.

In his statement, the Chairman of OOMPA, Adesoji Omosebi thanked Rt Hon Speaker for the honour he bestowed on the members of the association in Osun.

Omosebi said there is always a mixup between the Social Media and Media Practitioners. He went further to say that social media is for the public while OOMPA represents Media Practitioners who are the 21st Century media practising journalism online.

He added that OOMPA will work with the House of Assembly without being bias making “professionalism our watchword.” to have good working relationship.

In a response to OOMPA members’ comments, Hon Owoeye said, “I sincerely thank and appreciate all the media practitioners of the state for your presence, decorum and maturity displayed. God will continue to uphold everyone of you. Thanks and God bless.”
