The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) hosted all stakeholders in Osun State to a meeting to create awareness and to bring about peace and tranquillity in the coming elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Segun Agbaje in his speech advised party leaders to abstain from rigging, vote buying, thuggery or any other vices before, during and after the coming elections.

Mr Agbaje enjoined the electorates to keep their PVC safely because nothing will be allowed into the polling booth apart from PVC, “don’t allow thuggery, it is not good, don’t do it. Peace must remain. Don’t bribe, don’t sell your PVC. No voting by proxy. Don’t spread fake news.”

He warned that stiffer penalties await those who rig elections. He urged party leaders to make election peaceful without using the police like it is done in civilized countries.

The physically challenged, pregnant women, nursing mothers and the elderly will be given priority on the queue on election day.

Mr . Agbaje who managed the last gubernatorial elections in the state in 2018, in Ekiti and Ondo States successfully advised the police and security agencies to remain neutral.

He gave all stakeholders assurance that if any INEC staff is seen contravening the electoral laws such official should be reported to Resident Electoral Commissioner and should the REC erred he should be reported to the INEC Chairman in Abuja.

The royal fathers present enjoined the politicians to maintain peace and ‘Vote Not to Fight’. The party leaders were also advised to call their followers to order especially the youths who were seen brandishing dangerous weapons to desist from it..

The new Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Ige in her comments said, “ We will monitor the activities overtly or covertly.  We have started intensive patrol and intelligence gathering.  We would not hesitate to arrest anyone who breaches the peace.  We need to warn our children. Don’t let them do anything that would make us arrest them.  We are here to beg, the security is ready for the election. This election must be violent free.”

The National Orientation Agency Director in Osun, Mrs Yomi Olumide said their mandate is to create awareness and enlighten the public.

The NOA Director said, “anyone of voting age should come out and vote en masse; electoral officers should be fair to all; media to be objective in their reportage and royal fathers to advise their subjects”

“Let all your campaign be issue based, don’t engage in bad utterances, educate members of your party on the logos and symbols.”

The NYSC Director, Mr. Emmanuel Atta said the people of Osun should put themselves in the position of the parents of the NYSC members and treat them with care. He warned that the NYSC would no longer tolerate a situation where any Corper would be harmed.  Should any NYSC member misbehave, he gave his personal GSM as 07039194443.
