OSUN: TCI, Devcom, FP Media Advocates Hold Roundtable Discussion On Importance Of Data Collation On Family Planning

THE Challenge Initiative (TCI), Devcom and the Osun State Ministry of Health on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 held a Seminar on the importance of Data Collation on Family Planning Control.

 

The event that took place at the DC Hotel, GRA, Osogbo, Osun State comprised of Family Planning Media Advocates, representatives from the Osun State Ministry of Health, Devcom and The Challenge Initiative, TCI.

 

At the engagement, the State FP Media champion Chairman, Mr Victor Adeoti urged the participants to promote Family Planning as economic of the nation is biting more harder,

Population growth should be checked, as enhancing and Promoting Family Planning is crucial at this period of hard economic environment”, He sai

 

In his welcome address, the representative of TCI demand generation technical, Dr Adebusola Oyeyemi explained the steps taken so far by the TCI since 2022 in Osun state with the State Ministry of Health to improve health indices.

He revealed that TCI in Osun state has helped in the aspect of awareness that led to the wide acceptance of family planning in the State.

 

In her goodwill message, the family planning coordinator from State Ministry of Health, Mrs Mrs Ololade Abatan appreciated TCI and FP Media Team in Osun State and all the stakeholders for projecting FP across the state.

 

She emphasized on the roles of Media in dissemination and acceptability of family planning.

 

She charged Media Practitioners to put more effort in the sensitisation of the importance of family planning to the people.

 

She revealed that Family Planning has reduced Maternal Mortality Rate to thirty percent(30%), She appealed to TCI on the financial aspects.

 

She further stressed that To control population and live a better life family planning is the key.

Speaking at the media round table, Mr Daniel said The Challenge Initiative has guiding principles of demand driven, local ownership and system readiness;
Right fitting best practice interventions
Leveraging on existing platform, near time, real time data.

 

This newspaper gathered that the challenge initiative (TCI) is a platform that enables state government to set up high impact family planning and Adolescent Youths Sexual Reproductive Health approach for the urban poor.

 

The guest speaker at the meeting, Dr Olasumboye Oyetunde from Osun state Health Management Officer (HMIS), quoted that, “Errors using inadequate data are much less than those using no data at all” – by Charles Babbage (A Mathematician, philosopher inventor) stated that Inclusive data, which is a “Data from all and for all” reflect on our day to day activities.

 

Dr Oyetunde stressed the Importance of data; that’s Representation and fairness
Avoiding bias and discrimination
Enhanced research and innovation.
Inclusive planning and policy formulation. Proper monitoring, evaluation and decision -making for all societies.

Dr Oyetunde also itemized the
Challenges in data inclusivity;
1. Bias in data collection,
2. Resources constraints,
3. Ethical considerations,
4. Inconsistency in data standardization,
5. Digital literacies.

 

He further stressed that; Data will help to end poverty, end hunger, to ensure good qualitative health, and well being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work And economic growth.

 

“Addressing inequity, and also in addressing maternal mortality by the help of family planning”, He said.
