THE Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development for OsunOpenLG Project on Thursday, May 23, 2024 launched the Osun Open Local Government Project and unveiled the OSUNOPENLG Advocates.
The Executive Director Insight Initiative, Jare Tiamiyu, at a Press Conference at their head office situated at Osogbo said the launching and unveiling was supported by its international partners through the Nigeria Youth Future Funds (NYFF) aimed at fostering development at the grassroots.
According to Tiamiyu, the idea of Osun Open LG Project was conceived as a result of some challenges of financial misappropriation, lack of awareness, leadership crisis and autonomy challenges about the roles of the Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
The idea of the initiative is also centred on accountability, grassroots development and good governance and to reposition the Local Governments for greater prosperity.

The four pillars on which OsunOpen LG Project is built includes, Accountability, Civic Engagement, Grassroots Development and Good Governance.
The four pillars of the OsunOpen LG Project is aimed at;
“Accountability – To provide full details and make the government accountable to the people, open its books, and account for every kobo of the commonwealth spent.
Civic Engagement – providing a platform for members of the public to directly engage and ask questions from those they have set forth to lead them.
Grassroots Development – Facilitating government and other stakeholders’ attention to arears where the people critically need them to work for them in the provision of infrastructures and other developmental aspirations.
Good Governance – Ensuring that the people benefit directly from the dividends of democracy, and feel the impact of government positively in every strata of their lives.
To drive these four key things, we are unveiling today, our Local Government Advocates, who have been carefully selected to drive our agenda, across the 30 local government areas and area office of Osun State.
At the close of application on May 10, about 168 Youths of Osun origin applied, 100 of those applications were successful, while 66 of these applicants selected through a rigorous process are going to start work today.
Out of the 66 advocates, six (6) of them are people living with disabilities (PWDs). This is in adherence to our avowed commitment to inclusion.

The Executive Director therefore,
“call on the good people of Osun State, including the government, traditional institutions, political office holders, religious leaders, the formal and informal sector, artisans, business owners, community development associations, market men and women associations, among others to support the Osun Open Local Government Project dream. Our project is not to witch-hunt or expose the government negatively but to seek the development of our people through transparency and accountability at the council level.”
