OPINION: HON. ROTIMI MAKINDE
Our nowadays leaders do writes, speaks and dresses like Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo of blessed memory yet they lack the morality of a good leader.
In most cases they choose his branded cap or spectacle as symbol to make us belief that they are like him. Yet, many of them lack the principles of Late Pa Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo.
Running Free Educational program or maintaining just one wife but with hundreds of “Orentes” does not made you an Awoist. To be as close and as good or near perfection as Pa Awolowo is to learn how to appreciate other people’s view and to cultivate the idea of being the last to speak in any gathering or any meeting. Â And to run plain open office to encourage the youths to get closer and create opportunities for the low level men and women to get closer to share their minds and to accept loyalty as reward and not mere worshiping or to demand respect but to command respect by showing love and affection to the deserving..
People must be so free to tell you their priority and not for you to daze them at interval with what you think they needed against what they have in mind,
You must position yourself to be an accommodating Angel and always ready to be generous with deep high sense of responsibilities to people’s memory like Baba Ikenne, who sometimes delegated duties unlike the “do it yourself “policies of our present leaders.
He persuades and mobilized people to do task by leading and not by dictatorship and contrary to the policy of our today’s mentors, he was an actualizer because he set goals for himself unlike our present generation’s leaders who never see us as capable lieutenants or qualified enough to handle specific assignment unless we choose to cut corners. Â And care not if they labelled us a traitor!
So sad, very few of us wait for our turn and very few of our present leaders also matches these descriptions and I doubt if it is not just ONLY Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
