The Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji was honoured on Wednesday with the Award of Excellence in Investigative Journalism by the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola on Wednesday.

The event was in commemoration of the first anniversary of Governor Oyetola in the state that took place at the AURORA EVENT CENTRE in Osogbo.

Mr Ayatunji dedicated his award to his colleagues in the pen profession in the State of Osun for their “Professionalism, dexterity, trust, confidence and support.”

The crowd at the venue of the event was unprecedented within and outside the hall.

Meanwhile, Governor Oyetola has reiterated his commitment to fully diversify the State’s economy.

Mr. Oyetola said this on Wednesday while addressing indigenes and residents on a State broadcast in commemoration of his first year in office.

He disclosed that his administration have begun a remarkable journey of deepening the State’s economy and opening up opportunities to empower the people, create wealth and prosperity, which he noted are already yielding results.

He added that his government having realised that the State has got all that is required to turn around her fortunes, improved the Internally Generated Revenue in order to move gradually from excessive dependence on the Federal Allocation.

Presenting his scorecard, Governor Oyetola said his administration prioritised the welfare of the teeming and hard-working bureaucrats and ensured that their salaries are paid as promptly as possible adding that there shall be improvements as the State’s income improves.

He disclosed that the mining sector, which forms a critical component of the State’s economic rejuvenation agenda, received maximum attention in the last one year.

He said “not only have we increased regulation of the sector, we have also made it sufficiently attractive to critical investors. The immediate result of this is the influx of significant Investment to the State. We have also enhanced security in the mining areas and contained the activities of marauders.”

In the Agriculture sector, he noted that his government begun strategic investment to boost productivity and commercialisation, adding that the priority of his administration is to make agriculture profitable and the State of Osun the food basket of Nigeria.

Governor Oyetola further disclosed that his government in the last one year, injected additional fund to boost the Osun Broiler Outgrowers Production Scheme (O-BOPS), empowered Poultry farmers across the State through O-BOPS, market linkage of O-BOPS with Osun School Feeding Programme (O-MEAL) whereby chickens were bought back by the State Government from the participating farmers to feed primary school children; empowered farmers with 200,000 Hybrid Cocoa seedlings as well as 54,000 Oil Palm seedlings under the Tree Crops Project.

Also, he said his Government would renew effort towards the implementation of Private Sector-led Agro-input Distribution Scheme to support farmers through subsidised agricultural inputs such as fertilisers, agro-chemicals, among others.

Oyetola assured that his administration will not relent in its efforts as the coming days promise to deliver more dividends to the State.

“We have resolved to fully deliver on our Development Agenda. That is our Pact. And we shall not fail.” he said.
