The safest land Transportation today is through the Fast Train constructed by the Federal Government on loan. While some like the Kaduna-Abuja have been launched and helping Nigerians as safe haven against terrorists attack others are yet to be completed.
Passengers at the Kaduna Train Station have expressed worry over the non-availability of trains to transport them to Abuja.
One of the passengers who spoke with newsmen at the Train Station disclosed that his wife who was to come into Kaduna from Abuja had called to inform him that the train broke down in Kubwa.
According to him, “I also learnt that those that were supposed to come into Kaduna from Abuja by 8 pm yesterday night, arrived around 10.30 pm.
Passengers have continued to wait around as many have already bought their tickets and are hoping for a refund.
Though officials of the railway station have informed that it is uncertain whether or when the train would be available. But pleaded with the passengers to hold their tickets pending when the train would be fixed.
Speaking with reporters and some passengers, one of the officials at the train station disclosed that the rail track was bombed yesterday night as a result of explosives planted on the train track by bandits.
He revealed that the last train that was supposed to be in Kaduna yesterday night at 8 pm arrived at 2 am on Thursday.
Passengers who appear stranded at the train station told newsmen that some of them were stranded as they were coming from other states to connect Abuja from Kaduna.
The passengers berated the officials of the railway station who continued to collect money and issue tickets knowing that there was a problem since yesterday.
“How do I leave the train station now? One of the passengers asked. As she disclosed that she had bought ticket and also paid those who helped her carry her load which are much to the train station.
However, to calm frayed nerves, the officials assured the passengers that the tickets were still valid whenever the train is fixed.
Also, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central Zone, Shehu Sani has on his Twitter account disclosed thus: “Yesternight, Bandits attacked the Kaduna-Abuja train. They planted an explosive that damaged the rail track and shattered the windshield of the train engine.
‘They also opened fire, targeting the Driver and the Tank. It happened between Dutse and Rijana stations. The Driver struggled to move towards Kaduna Rigasa station.”
“This early morning, I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged the rails. The train nearly skid off its path then we miraculously escaped.
“All Kaduna Abuja train operations need to be suspended for today until this issue is addressed.” He stated.
As at the time of filling this report, many passengers were still waiting at the train station to contact their families, to enable them raise funds for alternative route of travelling.
The Commissioner of Internal Affairs and Home Security, Hon Samuel Aruwan was on ground to make sure that everywhere is secured.
