The Yobe State Commissioner for Youth, Sports, Social, and Community Development, Goni Bukar Lawan, has died in a motor accident along Damaturu-Kano Highway.
Lawan was said to have attended the funeral of his friend, the Director of Finance and Supply of the Upstream of the NNPC, Hassan Gambo, on Tuesday afternoon in Damaturu before embarking on an official trip to Kano where he was involved in the accident near Dambam a community in Bauchi State.
It was gathered that Lawan who was the former member House of Representatives, representing Bursari, Geidam, and Yunusari federal constituency died on Tuesday evening.

The Federal Road Safety Corps in Bauchi State confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday.
The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Yusuf Abdullahi, said the incident happened at about 6.15 pm on Tuesday.
He added that the fatal crash occurred adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Dambam – Potiskum in Dambam local government area of Bauchi state.

According to him, when the FRSC was informed of the crash, personnel from the Dambam Station office rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation.
Abdullahi said,
“The lone fatal crash happened on Tuesday at about 6.15 pm and immediately we were informed, our men rushed to the scene within 12 minutes for a rescue operation.
“The incident happened along Dambam – Potiskum road, adjacent to A.Y. Dagauda Fueling Station at Dagauda Village, along Kum in Dambam local government area of Bauchi state.
“It involved a government vehicle, a Lexus Jeep – GX 470 – with registration number: 11A01YB.

“The vehicle was driven by Hon. Goni Bukar Lawn and he was with one other male adult when the crash happened. The other person sustained some injuries.
“The crash was caused by a speed violation which led to a loss of control.”
