A vote of honour and thanks to Gani Fawehinmi, Nigerian human rights lawyer, social critic and activist who laid down his precious life for the defence of the fundamental rights of Nigerians, mostly the poor, vulnerable and voiceless segment of the population.
He eventually paid the supreme prize and died from health complications unarguably caused by his many years of incarceration for daring the tyrannical Nigerian military government and oftentimes suffered brutalization and victimization meted out to him by cruel military and police personnel.

Recall that on 22 April 1938, Nigerian human rights lawyer, social critic and activist, Gani Fawehinmi, was born in Ondo State, southwest Nigeria. A law graduate from the University of London.
Fawehinmi started his legal career in Lagos in 1965. He established a reputation as ‘the people’s lawyer’, taking on controversial cases that often got him into trouble with Nigeria’s past military government.
