Facts have emerged of how the 300 level student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Abiodun Babalola died from armed robbers attack in his hostel on Sunday.
HOSTEL:Â Investigations by SOJWORLD.COM revealed from a reliable source said, Abiodun refusal to release his iPhone to the robbers provoked them in giving him severe machetes cut on his head.
The robbers, who wielded machetes and charms, attacked the hostel around 2 am on Sunday and moved round the rooms, and dispossessed the residents of their belongings.

The late Babalola, it was learnt, was not in his room when the robbers invaded the hostel located on the outskirts of the town.
One of the sources explained,
“Abiodun was in another student’s room when the robbers arrived. He was cut with a matchet in the head because he refused to release his iPhone to them.
“They were just two inside that room when the robbers entered there. I cannot ascertain the number of the robbers, but they were many.
“Many other residents of the hostel also lost their belongings to the robbers. I also lost money to them. Many people lost mobile phones and other valuables too. Some other students were injured by the robbers.

“But his (Abiodun’s) injuries were severe. He bled for some hours before he died. He didn’t receive medical attention early. He eventually died at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile -Ife, around 6am.â€
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Folasade Odoro, said the command had commenced investigations into the matter.
She noted that the perpetrators would be apprehended and made to face the consequences of their action.
Meanwhile, The university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, who confirmed this in a statement late Sunday, said the year three student died as a result of injuries he sustained during an attack on the Adam and Eve hostel, an out of campus students’ residential hostel, along Parakin – Ede road axis of Ile-Ife.

The release stated that the students were attacked in the early hours of Saturday with dangerous weapons by some unknown persons who inflicted varying degrees of injuries on them before carting away their money, phones, and other valuables.
“The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife, have condoled with the parents and family members of a part three student of the Department of Accounting of the University, Abiodun Babalola, who died as a result of injuries he sustained during an attack on the Adam and Eve, an out of campus students residential hostel, along Parakin – Ede road axis of Ile Ife,†the statement highlighted.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Eyitope Ogunbodede, while expressing agony at the loss of the student, said people should place the fear of God far and above worldly materials, wondering what sort of earthly possession would make a man to attack, maim and kill his fellow man.
According to the statement, “He, thereafter, on behalf of the Council, Senate, Staff, Students and the entire University Community, prayed that the Lord would grant eternal rest to the late Abiodun Babalola and the parents and family members the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.â€
