The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) the State of Osun Chapter held its Press Week opening ceremony at the NUJ PRESS CENTRE, Oshogbo on Monday

The Chairman of the occasion, former senator representing Kaduna West Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani.
in his opening address said those in power today should be very careful about what they do today because of the reality of tomorrow.

He said it is discovered today that those who had cases at the EFCC are always alone without those who were chanting their praises in the past.
He asked, “where are his commissioners, advisers, his spokesmen in the media” There are nowhere to be found.”

Former PDP aspirant in the State of Osun, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi gave a lecture about the bridging the gap between the poor and the rich.

He blamed the leadership for the problems facing the country.

He praised the appointment of the newly appointed Economic Advisers appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari but he is worried if they would be allowed to work independently.

To bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, the rule of law should be allowed to work. peace and tranquillity, good governance, transparency, then, the gap between the poor and the rich will be imminent.

Dr. Ogumbiyi was concerned about how people are now concerned by instant gratification instead of enduring legacy. He said two aspirants in PDP spent about N6 billion just to represent the party in the last governorship election in the state. He said we are all guilty of the decadence in the society.

The role of parents is important, he said

“Work Ethics: People do longer want to work again, they are looking for miracles. Work ethics is completely missing.
Think about your selves because our leaders ready care for the masses.

‘Let us go back to those core values.”
He narrated the story of a boy who dropped out from school in 1973 and later brought a car that terrified his parents. His parents made enquiries on how their son was able to get the car.
They the boy from the Village Chief to the King to the police who later investigated and discovered the car
was stolen. Their son was later sent to three years imprisonment.

He said journalists have a very key roles to play to tame the ugly trends.

To eradicate poverty, we need qualitative education. Quality basic education from the primary school.

In her own short speech, the new Commissioner for Information Mrs Funke Egbemide buttressed what Senator Shehu Sani said that those in position of power should remember that ‘honeymoon does not last forever.

Mrs Egbemide said we should always remember that there is always tomorrow in all we do.

The opening ceremony of the NUJ PRESS WEEK was anchored by the Chairman of the NUJ, State of Osun Chapter, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji who said it is going to be a weeklong full of activities.

The event was witnessed by veteran journalists from Print, Broadcast and Online media.
